ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
Lorenz Assignon was shown a second yellow card late in the first half when he knocked Mykhailo Mudryk to the floor inside the Burnley box. When manager Vincent Kompany complained about the decision, he was also shown a red card before a lengthy VAR review ruled that the penalty should stand.

WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
Clarets fans vented their anger on social media at the decision to award the penalty and reduce their team to 10 men, with TheBurnleyWay writing: "Mudryk runs across Assignon = Red card. Konpany complains = Red card. This league is a f*cking joke."
"Absolutely disgraceful! @FA_PGMOL EMBARRASSING!," ItsLB_City said, while notomiwa added: "That’s actually disgusting that’s been given as a pen, and it’s lead to 2 red cards."
Sriniwrites_ wrote: "Burnley have been done so dirty. The Assignon challenge wasn't even a foul, let alone a red card and a penalty. Sending Kompany off for arguing as well was over the top. Another weekend, another stinker from the refs."
Opresii claimed: "Kompany has really suffered this season… so many wrong decisions gone against them."
Journalist Simon Evans was also surprised, saying: "Really, really soft penalty for Chelsea. Of course VAR not going to overturn when Assignon's hand is on his shoulder. But not even close to a yellow card. Absurd."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
After a long wait for VAR's judgement, Cole Palmer managed to chip into the net from the spot and give Chelsea the lead. It was a huge blow for the visitors, who had enjoyed a strong start to the match and looked capable of making it to half-time with the score still level.
