Sheffield United have now reportedly set their sights on an experienced Premier League midfielder, who wants to leave his current club this month.
Sheffield Utd plotting move to sign Premier League ace
It’s been a disastrous campaign for the Blades, who have gone from promotion contention to suffering in the bottom half of the Championship. Even with Chris Wilder back at the helm, they’ve struggled for consistency at times and will be well aware just how important reinforcements will be this month.
To that end, they’ve already managed to keep hold of Patrick Bamford and sign Ki-Jana Hoever on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst also targeting Joe Rothwell.
Having his say on Hoever’s arrival, Wilder told the club website: “It is no secret that we need to strengthen on the right side, and during discussions about personnel in that area going forward, Ki’s name was always one which featured prominently as he possesses quality.
“The loan market tends to be one which intensifies later in the window, so to have this deal completed is a huge boost for us. Ki is still a young man, but he’s experienced plenty in his early career.
“To have been at some of the clubs he has represented just shows how highly rated he is. What I like about him though is the desire to go and play.
“He now knows what it takes to be successful at this level, and by his own admission, he’s really matured, on and off the pitch. He’s ready to take the next opportunity in his career and we’re delighted to have added him to our squad, not least for balance.”
Signing from the Premier League seems to be the focus this month too. According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Sheffield United have launched an enquiry to sign Ross Barkley, as he looks to seal a move away from Aston Villa this month.
Sheffield Utd should go all out to sign Barkley
To sign a player of Barkley’s calibre from the bottom half of the Championship would be one of the moves of the window from Sheffield United.
The £60,000-a-week midfielder is a player with Champions League experience and one who is undoubtedly Premier League-level. He’s exactly the type of player who could transform the Blades in the second-half of the campaign.
Even though he’s struggled for game time at Aston Villa in recent times, it wasn’t so long ago that Barkley found himself at the centre of praise from Unai Emery.

The Spaniard told reporters after the midfielder’s impressive display against Leicester City in 2024: “Today I am also very happy with Ross Barkley. He was fantastic in the minutes he played.”
